BOOKINGS COMING IN FAST FOR EXCITING NEW CONFERENCE!   (11/9/2008)

On the 9th October, in Braintree, a new conference is taking place with the whole of the county coming together over the future of work related learning for local young people.
Work related learning is planned activity designed to use the context of work to develop knowledge, skills and understanding which are useful and applicable to work later on.
Organised by Link-Ed and the Essex County Council, Thurrock and Southend local authorities, this exciting event will debut next month and is eagerly anticipated with bookings from senior education managers to teachers rapidly arriving in to the Link-Ed office. The Conference will make work-related learning throughout all of Essex stronger by uniting to share ideas and different approaches to learning
This conference will help Link-Ed continue to give the young people of Essex fantastic opportunities to be educated about work-life and to prepare them for the future. The building of the link between earning and learning is becoming as strong as ever now.
Two delegates from each school are entitled to attend the conference that will be held at UNEX Towerlands. If there are any senior educators interested in coming along to the event, contact Link-Ed on 01245 392080.

BUILDING BLOCKS FOR PUPILS' EDUCATION   (1/7/2008)

Link-Ed, who build the vital bridges between education and the world of work, have held an event at the Anglia Ruskin University for Year 8 pupils in Essex.

The event happened on Tuesday 8th July 2008. The event specifically targeted pupils who were unsure of what career path to take. In Year 9, the pupils will take options for their GCSE's; therefore, to ensure maximum knowledge of all the careers available, Link-Ed have opened their minds to careers and jobs, that they may not have considered, in construction and the built environment sector - one of the most important economic sectors in the UK. They have also found out about the new Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment, which will be piloted in Essex 2009.

Robert West, Consortium Director of Link-Ed said, "The Government recognises the importance of developing our built environment for the benefit of future generations. This event was a real opportunity for education and business to work together to heighten interest from young people of all abilities, male and female, in the wide range of highly professional career opportunities available in this employment sector."

Link-Ed is the main 'umbrella' for a range of agencies, companies and educational establishments in Essex, Southend and Thurrock who support Link-Ed through events like this.

Employer Engagement   (2/5/2008)

Focus of the Construction and Built Environment Diploma
The Diplomas will be introduced into schools and colleges in September 2008 and a major and essential aspect of the Diplomas is Employer Engagement. Link-Ed, on behalf of EBL East, has been funded by the Learning and Skills Council to see how employers can support the Diplomas on a regional rather than local basis.

To find out more information and receive a copy of the Employer Engagement Information Sheet which contains details about the Project and will be circulated over the next few months, please contact the Project Manager, Tim Holmes on 07889 059483.

Essex Built Environment Initiative   (2/2/2008)

Following the successful response to our launch conference in December we are now looking at developing a range of initiatives in order to move the project forward so that we can work towards fulfilling our visions, aim and objectives which are:

Vision: To foster a greater awareness and understanding in Essex of Construction and the Built Environment and it's impact on our lives.

Aim: To bring together a range of organisations under the Link-Ed umbrella to promote construction and the built environment.

Objectives: To develop and implement a programme of initiatives aimed at encouraging young people to develop an interest and expertise in the widest possible range of career opportunities in this employment sector.

This is an exciting time for the development of this initiative as there are so many opportunties for young people of all abilities and attributes in this diverse employment sector, and our experience has shown that once young people are exposed to curriculum initiatives relating to construction and the built environment they are engaged in such a positive way.

Our intention is now to capitalise on the enthusiasm shown by developing a range of activities to support the development of Construction and the Built Environment across Essex, Thurrock and Southend.

We have analysed the responses to the conference questionnaire and produced a set of the activities we would wish to offer. To find out more, please contact the Project Director, Tony Groom via e-mail tg@link-ed.org.
