FutureJobsFund

FJF in Barking

The Future Jobs Fund is supported by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

This programme is based in the London Borough of Barking.  It involves working with the local Job Centre Plus to employ suitable people for this environmentally supportive initiative.

Our employees gain additional skills in a wide range of activities including environmental issues and energy conservation, combined with work-based experiences.  All employees are given training on curriculum vitae preparation, job searches, interview techniqes and other skills such as basic first aid and manual handling to enhance their employment chances.

Through the period of the programme, July 2010 to June 2011, there are sixty people employed on this programme, each for a six month period, working 25 hours per week.  We work towards all of these employees being able to participate in a work placement with a local employer.

There have already been successes in the work placements leading to full time employment.

The programme and the placements have a strong focus on community benefits.  All our personnel carry out observational reviews in their work placements to identify energy saving possibilities for the businesses.  In addition our staff provide support for Barking residents to access energy saving schemes available either locally or nationally

We are grateful for the support of the DWP team and all the local employers in the Barking area.
